whats new with me? many things... and some things are the same
evil box
every few months i decide i hate my phone and get ever and ever so closer to buying a dumbphone.
its just when i have nothing to do i fall into doomscrolling because id rather do that than be bored.
i dont know how to feel about this...
when i was treeplanting i would average around an hour or less of screen time, just because every day was work, and then the time off was spent sleeping.
and there was just, more interesting things to do than be on your phone.
i had a documentary pitch that i made about this and i interviewed a few people about how they felt about their phones.
just putting it out here too i guess, wonder how everyone here feels about their phones.

reaper and davinci progress part 2: folie à deux
reaper has been so so so much fun to work with, every time i open that software it is a joy to work with.
here is the next entry in the dj chimp saga...
made this like not to long after the first one, was a lot of fun and i think im getting a very good grasp on reaper which was the point of these.
i think im going to do one more for this.
now for danvinci...
just like premiere it has a very steep learning curve...

ive been using adobe and only adobe since highschool so this switch up has been a very rude awakening.
right now davinci feels a lot less capable than premiere, which is probably because im on the free version, and i haven't watched any tutorials on it.
the nodes are difficult to wrap my head around, feels like the effects controls pannel but you have to build the effects yourself instead of them just being there.
premiere, once you learn it its very fast to get what you want, i hope i can say the same for davinci but its a long road ahead...
and finally, there is one more issue with swapping from adobe...
photoshop.
photoshop is pretty awesome,
and its really good,
too good...
like none of the alternatives are appealing good... but realistically, i need to learn affinity or gimp or something quick because i cannot afford the adobe 70$/month pricetag
but baby steps, reaper and davinci first...

im struggling to find the energy to make it through most days, maybe because im doing so much nothingness, but i dunno
so for the big project this semester you gotta make a doccumentary, i pitched, but i chose deliberalty not to be picked
i felt like my story wasnt that interesting, and i wanted a lighter schedule too
but man, only working on other peoples sets has really freed up my schedule, like a lot

i think thats what lead me to being so sleepy, but whats a brother gonna do
...

braindump #8 - New Workflow - 19/9/25
What's up party people!!!!
life is going very smoothly and without any issues - which is really nice to say
i'm spending a lot of time laying in bed doing nothing, so i decided i'm gonna learn some new softwares!!!
there was some big talk about moving away from adobe, and moving over to better managed, cheaper and adobe free softwares
my introduction was james lee's video on it last year, i think its really well put together
so this week i downloaded DaVinci and Reaper and i'm currently trying them out!!! going to post more updates with the test projects i make
this was my first project, a fanmade bumper for [sexfm]
audio made in reaper, and video made in davinci
overall, lot of fun to make!!! both softwares feel a lot more smoother than adobe's which is really nice, doesn't have the "20 year old software" feel
DaVinci has the steepest learning curve, its layout is completely different from premieres and nodes are as expected a very difficult concept to wrap my peon brain around...
Reaper is a lot like protools and audacity which is nice, very good and easy to use layout, some quirks but very easy to pick up
and both have free trials!!!! like !!!! thats awesome!!!!! go try them out!!!!!!!!
now that i have this dj chimp character, i think youll see more of him as i work more with reaper and make more bumpers...
this semesters has an extremely light workload, which is nice so it gives me more time to work on stuff like this!!!

braindump #7 - Treeplanting was awesome, dont do it - 10/8/25
summer 2025 was spent treeplanting.
summer 2025 was horrible and great.
this summer I decided it would be a good idea to go treeplanting up in northern canada.
the treeplanting part was hard and long, and the bugs were gross and the rainy days sucked and, yada yada yada
but when we got back to camp it was the best thing ever
a lot of what made it great was that there was no cell service
and at night you could see so many stars
it was kind of like the wallpaper for this site.
and sometimes the northern lights would come out
theres something about being outdoors for 3 months, just hanging out with a bunch of people from all around canada all having different lives, all here to plant some trees.
and it was perfect.
the answer is absolutely a hut in the woods.
bastard turtle.
when we reached the 3rd month we were all pretty tired and burnt out, but when we got back, and the first place we returned to was a walmart parking lot...
I can't speak for everyone, but I wanted to get back into the trucks and drive 10 hours back to the woods.
maybe I need to make documentaries out in the woods.
maybe thats my calling.
I think I love living in a tent
I think I could do that for a while.
if a war every breaks out, and I go missing...
I may be in the woods.
dont come looking for me.

because i'm going tree planting this summer!!!!!!!!!
i'm very excited to go up into the woods and get away from everything for a while
i should be back in late july.
anyways !!
im working on a new video for you before i go that is a lil recap of my thrid and fourth semesters
its a short snippet from a ~8 hour series that i'm making that no one except a few of my closest friends will ever see, maybe one day ill make it public,

MY FILM IS DONE !!!!!!
last time you heard from me my film was just entering preproduction
and now its a real thing that's done and right in front of me, and i am so proud of all the work that everyone has put into it !!
there was a moment during the production of my film which was truly amazing,
the last 2 nights before everything was due, i spent all of it awake and working on the film, back to back all nighter
and i loved every second of it.
the film means a lot to me and i'm so happy with how it turned out,
made me realize that i gotta make work that i enjoy working on, that challenges me and keeps me going.
i think with a lot of the projects i worked on i didn't really enjoy or was passionate about, and that's why they didn't end up being finished.
in website news, i did a small reorganizing of the film page, now the individual film pages are separate from the categories.
there's a new page for puppet therapy
theres also now a page for my film,
the page still needs some work though, project for post summer. and the elusive notes page. and ill do one more photo upload before i go

braindump #5 - incoming transmission - 20/1/25

Is there anyone out there?
things have begun once again, which is nice
i'm excited to work on things again
my brains full of ideas and i'm a walking pitch machine
it started when i came up for an idea for my directing, it was a simple story i came up with in the shower
a perfectionist director cannot make the perfect cut and a detective gets tasked with an unsolvable murder case
the stories would come together when surprise! the director killed someone
had some talks with other film students, and decided, nah
threw it all out last night and started fresh
and that's how we ended up where we are today
made the pitch page last night and wrote the first draft of the script
and this morning i made the little animatic at the bottom of the page
going to be pitching this during my directing class this wednesday!!!
there's only 8 slots and 12 people are pitching so i got to go all out for this one
this is gonna be my biggest film, and i have really big plans for it
its gonna be crazy watching this come to life

in other news, a film i'm editing is almost out of post production hell and i got some shooting coming up this weekend
oh and i have ANOTHER ANOTHER directing project shooting next week
...oh man...
and i don't even know where to start with the live puppet show
semester 4 is going to be a crazy one
so happy we're making projects

braindump #4 - burnt out - 6/1/25
burnout sucks.
i am struggling to push through some projects right now, and its so hard to work on stuff when your burnt out
like i feel bad writing this because i should be working on the projects right now
i just need to lock in
4th semester of college started, got an 8am class tomorrow, schedule is fine, pretty light compared to animation or illustration
life is pretty good
i got the tree planting job
this summers gonna be crazy
hopefully once i get through this slum i will start cooking again
need to catch up on journals and other projects
oh and that strike is totally happening isnt it?
also i guess the slop channels have stopped? my company decided to upload 3 videos and leave, that's crazy man
im writing again, i have an idea for something that may not see the light for like a year, or ever, i do that a lot
moved around the layout of my room, its not the best layout but i have a bed theater which is cool
also moved around the living room, when we have a lot of people over it felt like there was 2 rooms,
it feels a lot better now, can also watch the tv from the kitchen table
sometimes i wonder about what you guys are doing, send me an message about your life, i hope you are doing good.

and just like that, my third semester has ended
this semester was ok, i wish we got more projects, but im happy with the projects i did get to make and the sets i worked on
speaking of,,, we just shot a film in my house, crazy 2 day shoot, living room and my room got flipped inside out, i still have the green room poster up in my room
overall that was a really fun shoot, was a little stressful at times with all the people in my apartment but honestly, it was still so much fun i can look past that
heading back to my hometown now, site wont be updated as much i think, or who knows, may just spend all of the holidays writing code and editing
WOODS IS OUT NOW!!!!
oh my god that was such a fun project, watching it grow from a google doc all the way to a final cut was beautiful, thats what i wanna do in film
working on collecting all my films that i worked sets on/acted in some ppl just aren't posting them anywhere which sucks :/ I WANNA SEE YOUR FILMS!!!!!
next semester is going to be a little more chaotic "hit the ground running" is the common phrase spread around
i also have an 8am next semester which is not gonna be fun, but oh well, i've been waking up early so it's probably not gonna be the worst thing
but also, whats going on with the strike??? is that happening??? i haven't been following that at all

very fun, 10/10 set, i dont know what i can say details wise but man it was so fun, i will link it here when it releases
this week is going to be another crazy week workload wise, still not as much as any other program but yeah, its feeling a little cramped
going to pull an all nighter editing work tomorrow methinks
in other news i have a new project shooting soon at some point in my apartment
that will also be releasing soon, im told it will be before the holidays
my personal project will probably shoot soonish, i have everything i need ready to go, but need to lock down an actor, may be myself acting
this is gonna be a crazy few weeks
only 2 more weeks until the semester is over
also my college is going thru some stuff, which may lead to me dropping out
who knows, film is great, but also, its expensive, and if it goes up, i cannot afford it
final news is that i had my job interview for tree planting summer today and it went well!!!
i think i have a very good shot at actually working there this summer which is exciting
the guy said i had good energy

braindump #1 dumbphone dillema - 20/11/24
the current trend right now is to hate your phone, the bug got me,
I've deleted all socials off my phone for the most part and its only purpose right now is only communication with friends & peers and sometimes if i need to look something up.
i don't think its making my life any better, its defiantly nice to feel like you have some control over your life though.
i used tiktok for a bit, i didn't like how it was such a timewaster, and by the time i deleted tik tok, reels had came out, i don't like instagram, so it wasn't hard for me to avoid it.
but for some reason. the bug got me, i deleted instagram and youtube off my phone, cutting me off from the public.
and then i found the lite phone.
the idea is really cool, a dumbphone that's just meant to be a phone, messages, camera, just the bare essentials. AND IT LOOKS SO COOL.
luckily for my wallet i am stuck with an iphone 14 until its lifespan ends in about 4-5 years or so, but i could also just sell it??
the litephone 3 is 500$ which is pretty expensive but its not horrible because it would probably last a long ass time.
but its also preorder right now, so the final product could be dogwater.
IT SEEMS LIKE A SIMPLE ANSWER, BUT GETTING THAT PHONE SEEMS REALLY APPEALING
its the anti consumer in me that is holding me back from getting this phone.
if i got this phone, would i be happier
...i don't know, maybe...
it would for sure make reaching me a pain in the ass, which kind of does sound appealing, i would be cutting off a lot of ways to communicate with me off.
there will probably be a better dumbphone by the time my 14 is out of life, so i don't know, i'm happy with my phone right now, it would be nice to have a dumbphone, but i don't need it.
