For now the film isn't publicly available
This film was my fourth semesters directing classes big project
but what if i told you it almost didnt exist
my original pitch for two stories was a drama about a a director who didn't like a shot and a detective who got put on the unsolvable case
thankfully i scrapped that idea because i didnt like it and pitched this film instead
you can see the pitch i made for the film here !!!
This film was very inspired by the very talented, and handsome, Jan Winters !!!!!!!
the film got overwhelming support and was the first one picked in the vote
...and then we had to actually make it
i started a production journal of all the plans and progress, i stopped updating it though because it did not seem useful to the crew
carrying a bunch of cardboard boxes with my production designer, to my apartment from the school
and then working with my other production designer over the weekend, troubleshooting,
trying to figure out how we were going to make this ship keep its shape was a lot of fun
we did end up losing all of our planned locations,
but that meant that the filming would be a lot easier because it would all be done in and outside my apartment,
and then a few scenes in a green screen room
and then we made the film
and everything was perfect
the next 7 weeks was spent in post production, once the film is out id love to share all the rough cuts that were made
but yeah thats the film!!!!!
in the end im very happy with how it turned out and so proud of all the crew who worked on it!!!!
Originally, the story was supposed to start at Iris' old highschool at the bleachers and end at the beach,
but we couldn't secure those locations (and a beach would be horrible for sound recording) we switched to Iris living in the apartment.
Lazlo's ship was originally going to be a lot bigger too, There was a planned sliding opening door as Lazlo re enters their ship,
but due to logistical reasons we cut it, and in the end, it works better as Lazlo feels like they are trapped in the spaceship.
Lazlo's ship was also supposed to be covered in posters from astral, but we decided to keep it empty and give Lazlo's costume all the little details
The ARG had a big section that was cut, The door that you can find would have linked to Iris' blog "the view from the lighthouse"
(click to go see the wip page)
The site would have been a very geocities/web 1.0 style blog for Iris to post about how they feel with lots of character building and info
and of course secrets...
unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of interest in the arg, and so I chose to spend most time working on making the film.
the terminal video that kicked off the arg also looked a lot different.
It was changed though because I was worried people wouldn't understand the arg was connected to the film.
in the end, the only things im bumbed out about being cut was the arg stuff and maybe the locations, i think the rest of the things that we chose to cut benifited the film
